Fr. McCartney was born in New York City and was raised in the parish
of St. Mary’s, Manhasset. He is a graduate of: St. Mary’s Elementary
School, Manhasset (1978); Chaminade High School (1982); New York
University (1986, B.A. — Political Science); and Fordham Law School
(1989, J.D.).

After working for five years, he discerned his vocation to the
priesthood and entered the Seminary of the Immaculate Conception in
Huntington. He received an M.A. in Theology in 1998, and an M.Div. in
1999. He was ordained to the priesthood on June 12, 1999, by Bishop
John R. McGann. He has served as a priest in the parishes of: St. John
the Evangelist, Center Moriches; St. James, Seaford; and Our Lady of
Victory, Floral Park. He has served as pastor in the parishes of: St.
Matthew’s, Dix Hills; and St. Mary’s, Roslyn.

From 2019 to 2021 he served the Diocese as Secretary to the Bishop,
Co-Chancellor, and Associate Moderator of the Curia. He continues to
serve as the Coordinator of the Diocesan Office of Human Life, Family
and Bioethics as well as the Chaplain of the Catholic Medical
Association.

He became the pastor of Notre Dame Parish on June 23, 2021.
